Nottingham Racecourse

Key Characteristics

Nottingham racecourse is set within the picturesque Colwick Park, and is a very pleasant if undistinguished racecourse. It is ideally set in the middle of the country and often gets some very promising Newmarket horses in its Maiden Races.

Nottingham is very flat course with a run in of about four and a half furlongs, there is also a straight 6 furlong course. The final turn is quite sharp, but the length of the straight means that a galloping horse has plenty of time to recover and take control.

Draw Bias & Pace Analysis

Five and six furlong races are contested over a straight course with minor undulations and speedy, handy types are favoured. There appears little draw bias but high drawn horses have a better chance to bag the rail which is the place to be.

The round course is left handed. The gallop is often steady due to the relatively sharp bends, particularly into the straight, so those ridden prominently can be difficult to reel in. In races over a mile and a mile and a quarter, those drawn high in big fields are often forced wide on the turn, the alternatives being to drop out in the rear, or expend a lot of energy in the early stages to get across and race prominently.
