NAP OF THE DAY – 1st June 2018

MAGIC WAND – The Oaks at Epsom at 16.30

Magic Wand is the choice of Ryan Moore from the 5 Aiden O’Brien runners here. She started her career slowly but made all in Cheshire Oaks and could do the same again here. She raced a little green on that occasion but still won by 31/2l. The ground at Chester was good and she has run on soft and heavy in Ireland. I would guess therefore there are no great fears about the ground.

As she has won over 1m4f, she has proven stamina while others in the field will be trying the trip for the first time.

Wild Illusion the current 11/4 favourite is one that has done all she has been asked to do and is bred to stay but has only run up to a mile. She is also drawn in the one stall which has failed to produce a winner of any 1m4f race on Oaks or Derby day for the last 10 years (see my YouTube video on the subject).

So I trust Ryan knows what he is doing and with Wild Illusion having to get over the handicap of the one stall, I confidently put MAGIC WAND forward as the NAP OF THE DAY.

UPDATE JUNE 2, 2018:
Got this one right with regards to Wild Illusion who ran a perfectly good race but would have been closer or even won if she had not been in stall 1 (so mark up her performance). Got it wrong that the best jockey around chose wrong!!
