Most productive Back To Lay horse for Betfair Trading retires
After 8 years, 103 runs and 11 wins ORNATE is retiring. The absolute “go to” back to lay trade on Betfair he maintained his blistering early pace to the end.
Originally purchased by his owners to win the DASH on Derby day – he indeed did that in 2019. He has run in Group Company, up to Group 1, and reached a rating high of 103 in handicaps.
It was only last October when the Members Newsletter had Ornate, as the NAP at Chelmsford City racecourse, duly obliged at 11.5 on Betfair.
All you needed was a fast 5f, a good draw and Phil Dennis on board to get the best out of him. The David Griffiths trained horse would then do the business; getting out in front and, with the guts of a true fighter, stay there for long enough to trade much lower than his BSP.
He must have been the most productive Back to Lay horse there has every been. If you looked at the number of occasions he traded 33% or less than his BSP it was 77/103 and on several of the occasions when he didn’t it was because he really was out of his depth in group races.
So a horse that has over 75% strike rate of trading less than 33% of his BSP is going to make you money Back to Lay Betfair trading him. That’s why I loved him! That’s why I tipped him so many times as a back to lay.
Just to add; his lifetime P/L to £1 stake was -£12.52p. Which is pretty damn good for 103 runs.
What a great horse, what a great servant and what a great example of why we all love horse racing.
I’ll miss you.
