The surface is Tapeta, which is a mixture of sand, fibre and rubber. This surface is also used at Wolverhampton and more recently Southwell has adopted it as well.

It stages both flat and National Hunt racing, with its biggest meeting being the Northumberland Plate held annually in June.

Standard prices at Newcastle racecourse enable entry to the grandstand and paddock enclosure from as little as £13, whilst access to the premier enclosure is priced at just £19 for standard meetings. Customers under the age of 18 are permitted free of charge when accompanied by a full paying adult.

There is a free shuttle bus service on Saturday racedays that runs from Four Lane Ends & Regent Centre Metro Stations to the racecourse, beginning an hour and a half before racing running till the first race time, and then returns from the racecourse to the same metro stations directly after racing.

Dress code is smart casual but no trainers or torn jeans.

Food cannot be taken into the track area. Beer is on average £5.30/pint.
